How to Overcome Procrastination as a Business Owner

Image depicts a young man lacking motivation as a business owner and could use some guidance on overcoming procrastination

Running a small business is not a walk in the park and to produce viable results, you must overcome procrastination as a business owner.

Procrastination in lay terms is the act of delaying actions needed to reach long-term goals due to a lack of desire to follow through on short-term goals at a particular point in time.

In business, procrastination is particularly challenging to overcome for solopreneurs who lack the direction and discipline to meet set deadlines as they would if they were still working in the corporate world.

Procrastination is experienced in all facets of life. Pull yourself out of procrastination jail with the following mental tricks and exercises:

1) If it needs to be done and there is no getting around it: “Just Do It.” Reciting Nike’s iconic slogan in your mind can spearhead you right into action on sluggish days when you have no choice but to move.

2) Silence all negative self-talk and unsolicited commentary if they do not align with your vision and goals. Learning to filter your thoughts will keep you focused and determined to keep going, especially on days when you want to give up.

3) A third impactful mental trick to overcome procrastination as a business owner is to visualize your success. This ties into having an earnest vision of why you started your business and the solutions you hope to provide to humanity through your business.

4) Do not compare yourself to others. Stay on task and in your lane as you master the ropes of your business. A quick mental exercise to do is to reaffirm your strengths and to celebrate your wins.

5) Set small buildable goals and accomplish them. Do not take on too much at once to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

6) Be passionate about what you bring to the table. This will give you a huge confidence boost in your capabilities as a business owner.

7) Walk by faith and not by sight – (2 Corinthians 5:7 NLT). There is no telling how far your dreams could take you if you stay the course and remember when one door shuts another door opens.

In conclusion, growth takes time and faith without action is dead! Push past boundaries and self-sabotaging habits to overcome procrastination as a burgeoning business owner. You got this!
